This weekend we were in Broomfield taking part in their Village Fete. It was great to get involved with the local community and it was really good to meet all the new people who came and talked to us at our stand - we look forward to welcoming you as new students very soon.
We also had a small team perform a display to give visitors an idea of what it is that we do. Everybody involved did fantastically well (and we almost avoided the rain!) so thank you to everyone who took part and those who helped out at our stand!
We now offer the first lesson free of charge for all new starters - so if you or your child were thinking of having a go, there's nothing to lose.
If you are interested in learning karate, please do not hesitate to contact me on stuart.tickner@shinjitsumartialarts.co.uk.
We had a very successful open evening at White Court School. Thank you to everyone who came to talk to us to find out more - we hope to see you at one of our classes soon.

Congratulations to both for their achievements throughout this year!
For many of our students, items of karate equipment make excellent Christmas presents.
We can obtain, at low prices, a wide range of equipment ranging from the essentials such as gis, pads and mouthguards, through to extra treats such as club hoodies, duffle bags and keyrings.
All students will shortly receive a list of items that can be ordered, so please take a look and speak to your instructor if you have any questions or would like to place an order!
On Sunday 13th October, Sensei Andrew and Sensei Gareth entered the BIKO British Open Karate Championships.
They competed in the Pairs Kata event (for the first time ever) and won 1st place for an excellent Pinan Yodan!
They trained for a long time to perfect the kata (in particular the timing) and represented the club with honour. We are all very proud of their achievement and hope that this will only be the start of our competition success.
Our new class, at Broomfield Village Hall, Chelmsford, starts on Saturday 3 August.
The class will run from 10am - 11am every Saturday morning and will be taught by Sensei Gareth. Adults and children all welcome!
I am delighted to announce that we have just received accreditation as a Learning Destination from the Children's University. This means that any of our students who are members of this scheme can now earn hours for their Passports by attending our classes. This is another way of recognising the achievements of all of our students who attend regularly and work hard to improve their karate.
Not only is this good news for our students, it also reflects the effort that all of our instructors put in to making our classes into exciting and innovative learning experiences. The Children's University has a rigorous quality assurance process and the fact that we have passed is a great vote of confidence in the work that we do.
A big thank you to everyone who performed at the White Court School summer fete. It was great to have virtually the whole club turning out to support the school and help to promote karate.
Everyone really rose to the occasion and performed brilliantly, despite the hot weather!
A small team of our students and instructors, including Sensei Stuart, Sensei Andrew and Senpai Gareth, performed a display at Broads Green village fete on Sunday 26th May.
A big thank you to everyone who took part or came along to cheer us on. We were very lucky with the weather and received many compliments from people watching. The event was a great success for a really worthy cause.
We hope to have photos in the gallery soon!
We now have some very stylish club hoodies available - a fantastic way to show off your membership of our club!
As you can see below, the hoodies are black with a front zip and have our wado-ryu logo on the front, and the club name in gold lettering on the back. They can frequently be seen being worn by our instructors.
If you are interested in getting hold of one, please speak to Sensei Stuart or one of the admin team.

Welcome to our new website!
After many years of living in the technological dark ages, we now have a brand new website. It has been designed and created through the hard work and talent of Gareth, one of our assistant instructors.
The site should contain all of the information that you may need, whether you are considering joining our club or are already a student. Please have a look round and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any feedback on the new design.
We were recently very fortunate to host a special lesson led by Sensei Andy Wilshaw (6th Dan Jujitsu, 2nd Dan Karate, 1st Dan Judo, 1st Dan Kobudo) and Sensei Bart Hansen (5th Dan Karate).
Our thanks go to Sensei Wilshaw and Sensei Hansen for making the journey to the South and putting on an excellent course, in which everyone learned something new and had fun at the same time! Thanks also to everyone who attended and supported their club - without you, it would not be possible to put on events such as this. Both of our guest instructors were extremely complimentary about the standard and conduct of all of our students.
At the same time as the course, two of our senior grades were being put through their paces, and I am delighted to announce their gradings:
Gareth Wiseman - 1st Dan
Michael Corsham - 1st Dan
Many congratulations to them for their success!
On the same day, I was honoured to be awarded my 4th Dan by Sensei Hansen and Sensei Wilshaw. Any instructors is judged chiefly by the quality of his students, and I can only thank everybody for working so hard and giving such a favourable impression of our club.

Many thanks and congratulations to everybody who performed at the White Court School summer fete this year, and to everybody who turned up to support the students taking part. Pictures from this event can be found in the Gallery.
On the above date, we hosted a special lesson in order to help our students to develop and extend their training.
The lesson was led by Sensei Bart Hansen (4th Dan), Sensei Mark Price (5th Dan), and Sensei Steve Blears (2nd Dan). These instructors are based in the North of England and so rarely visit our area: this was therefore a unique chance to train with some very senior martial artists.
Everybody who attended the course enjoyed it hugely, and our thanks go to Sensei Hansen, Sensei Price and Sensei Blears for kindly visiting and putting on such an excellent course, and to everybody who participated and made it such a well-supported event.
At the same time as the course, the following Dan gradings took place:
Louise Marriage - 2nd Dan
Stuart Tickner - 3rd Dan
Congratulations to all those who successfully graded!
